Formatting
the Fujitsu 2.3 Gigabyte Optical Disk
Formatting
an optical disk is not possible using normal DOS formatting methods
(format and fdisk); however,once formatted files may be erased using
DOS commands (delete or erase).
There
is a formatting utility that is supplied with the optical Drive.
The
following procedure is started by typing "fjfdisk" at the DOS prompt
Low
level formatting (Step 3.) is not needed in most cases, only use Low
level (physical formatting) if Highlevel (Logical formatting) fails
when using media other than Fujitsu.
Operating
the MO Disk Formatter
===================================================
Step
1.
Execute "FJFDISK.EXE" to start the formatter the following initial
screen is displayed:

Move
the cursor on the screen and select the drive to be formatted.
(Select "Quit" to terminate the program.)
Once
a drive is selected, the format selection screen is displayed.

Step
2. Selecting "Logical formatting"

Select
"A Hard Disk type" displays the following message at the center of the
screen.

Select
"Execute" to start logical formatting on the disk

Enter
the volume label. (Or simply press [Enter] to set NO NAME as the volume
label.)
While
the formatting is in progress, the following message is displayed at
the center of the screen.
Formatting
Now
*******
After formatting is complete, the following message is displayed.

The
Optical Disk is now ready for use with the ect MAD 8D System.
Step
3. Selecting "Low Level Formatting"
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Not
needed in most cases with Disks supplied from Eddy Current Technology
Incorporated.
May occur when media other than Fujitsu media is being formatted.
Use only when the Logical level formating fails.
The MO Disk Formatter will prompt you that the disk needs to be Low
level formatted.
Selecting
"Low Level Formatting" displays the following screen:
All existing data on disk will be lost.
Low-level formatting will take approximately 10 to 20 minutes,
and cannot be canceled.
Are you sure you want to continue?
Execute
Abort

Select
"Execute" to start physical formatting.
The following message is displayed:
Low Level Formatting Now
Start time: XX:XX:XX
Now Time : XX:XX:XX |
After
physical formatting is complete, the following message is displayed:
Low-level formatting successfully completed
Push any key |
All
Disks must be High level formatted before they can be used with the ect
MAD 8D System.
Follow the procedure outlined in Step 1.
FORMATTING PINNACLE
4.6 GByte DRIVE USING VER 3.33
This procedure uses the
Magneto-optical Disk Formatter Ver 3.33. The procedure will be the same
for other versions of the Formatter,however, directory names and
keystrokes may not be exact.
The Formatter is menu
driven. This is a two step procedure; however, if Pinnacle Optical
Media is used, it may not be necessary to perform the low level format.

steps listed below are necessary to format an optical disk for use with
the MAD8D software. For further reference, please read pages 61 through
